Send Humor To Reader's Digest Via
CompuServe 11/09/94 PLEASANTVILLE,
NEW YORK, U.S.A., 1994 NOV 9 (NB) --
Reader's Digest, known for its
monthly collections of humorous
anecdotes submitted by readers, says
it will accept submissions to its
humor departments by CompuServe
electronic-mail, starting December
1.
Anyone with access to the
Internet e-mail services, such as
those provided by all major online
services and many local bulletin
board systems (BBSs), as well as
CompuServe members, can submit their
humor items directly by modem, the
firm said.
Readers Digest advises writers to
keep their items to 300 words or
less, for humor features including
"Life in These United States,"
"Laughter, the Best Medicine,"
"Quotable Quotes," "Humor In
Uniform," "Toward More Picturesque
Speech," and "Campus Comedy."
R. Pierce Reid, speaking for
CompuServe, told Newsbytes the
service will handle submissions
through the CompuServe Lotus Notes
Information Service, which CompuServe
operates, because submissions will go
directly to the desks of the
magazine's editors.

electronic mail to one of these

"What we worked on with Reader's
Digest was to set up a way for the
broadest possible number of readers
to reach them as directly as
possible. They're a very reader-
oriented publication, and they take
huge numbers of reader submissions.
Now readers can send things in
electronics as well as by mail," said
Reid.
Pat Kloepfer, product manager for
the CompuServe Lotus Notes
Information Service, added, "They are
notes users in their own company, and
they wanted this mail routed directly
to the editors at their desks, so
putting it here made the most
sense."
Published in 45 editions and 17
languages, Reader's Digest magazine
claims a global circulation of 27
million and says more than 100
million people read the magazine in
virtually every nation.
