  5.     Send Humor To Reader's Digest Via

  8. Reader's Digest, known for its
  9. monthly collections of humorous
  10. anecdotes submitted by readers, says
  11. it will accept submissions to its
  12. humor departments by CompuServe
  13. electronic-mail, starting December
  14. 1.

  16.     Anyone with access to the
  17. Internet e-mail services, such as
  18. those provided by all major online
  19. services and many local bulletin
  20. board systems (BBSs), as well as
  21. CompuServe members, can submit their
  22. humor items directly by modem, the
  23. firm said.

  25.     Readers Digest advises writers to
  26. keep their items to 300 words or
  27. less, for humor features including
  28. "Life in These United States,"
  29. "Laughter, the Best Medicine,"
  30. "Quotable Quotes," "Humor In
  31. Uniform," "Toward More Picturesque
  32. Speech," and "Campus Comedy."

  35. CompuServe, told Newsbytes the
  36. service will handle submissions
  37. through the CompuServe Lotus Notes
  38. Information Service, which CompuServe
  39. operates, because submissions will go
  40. directly to the desks of the
  41. magazine's editors.

  44. electronic mail to one of these

  53.     "What we worked on with Reader's
  54. Digest was to set up a way for the
  55. broadest possible number of readers
  56. to reach them as directly as
  57. possible. They're a very reader-
  58. oriented publication, and they take
  59. huge numbers of reader submissions.
  60. Now readers can send things in
  61. electronics as well as by mail," said
  62. Reid.

  67. notes users in their own company, and
  68. they wanted this mail routed directly
  69. to the editors at their desks, so
  70. putting it here made the most
